Work Weekend 2021

Updated: Aug 17, 2021

46th ANNUAL KIWANIS WORK WEEKEND

CANYON CAMP

Announcement & Attendance Requirements

Friends and Alumni of Canyon Camp,

It seems as though it has been a very long time since we have been able to gather at Canyon Camp to prepare for a summer camping season. Yes, it has actually been a long time! As of March 19th, the State of Illinois has notified agencies that youth camps will be allowed to open for operations this summer. Hurray!!! (With many safety restrictions, of course)

Now that we have the “green light” to proceed, we have the task of preparing our facility, Canyon Camp, for this upcoming season. As with our communities and states, we now have mandates in how our daily routines must take place. The mandates may seem frustrating at times, but we must approach them knowing that we need to be responsible and respectful of and for the safety of others.

We have many projects to accomplish in this preparation phase leading to summer. We will have our traditional Kiwanis Work Weekend with restrictions in place. Additional work projects will be completed throughout the month of May.

Please note!!! Requirements for attendance!!!

  1. You must register here to confirm your attendance. This is a must for attendees to be assigned work projects and for meal preparation. Sack Lunch style meals will need to be served outdoors with participants eating in a socially distanced format.

  2. Work projects will be assigned in groupings with families &/or unit/club participants working on a common project with social distancing.

  3. You will be required to bring and wear a facemask while in attendance.

  4. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, May 1st and Sunday, May 2nd. We will provide a simplified continental breakfast each day from 8:00-9:00 a.m. Noon meals will be offered each day at 1:00. Dinner on Saturday only will be provided at 6:15.

Projects will get underway by 9:00 each day and will include a great deal of general cleaning in and around buildings, the main area, campsites, and program areas. Projects may include painting, plumbing, construction, etc.

Bring your gloves, favorite tools, and your enthusiasm to help in our preparation for summer of fun for youth and adults at Canyon Camp.

Whether you can stay only a few hours, or the entire day, on either or both days, we look forward to seeing you at camp.

Again, online registration or notification to Lee, Dick, or Dan IS REQUIRED for your attendance at this event. Thank you!!!
